Let us review the journey that has been Notre Dame Fighting Irish WR Michael Floyd's offseason. After being arrested for DUI on March 21, Floyd was quickly suspended for the indefinite future. His status remained murky through May, until he was finally allowed to participate in team workouts last week.
Michael Floyd Could Play In Notre Dame Opener, Says ‘Very Optimistic’ Brian Kelly
Now coach Brian Kelly says he's "very optimistic" Floyd could play the entire Irish football season, including the team's opener against the South Florida Bulls. The news is double-edged for Floyd, however, as Kelly also says there won't be any more talk of suspensions for Floyd if he is able to earn his way back onto the field. "One mistake, he doesn't play here ever," says Kelly.
Cynics would be tempted to allege Kelly is letting his star off easy by not suspending him, but the coach has stayed true to message throughout. Some programs suspend the same players over and over without actually threatening to do any booting, after all.
