Notre Dame WR Michael Floyd Pleads Guilty To Drunk Driving

Notre Dame wide receiver Michael Floyd has been suspended indefinitely by his coach Brian Kelly since March when he was caught driving while drunk. On Wednesday morning, Floyd, who is participating in team workouts and trying to get reinstated by Kelly, pleaded guilty to charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, stemming from that March incident.

Floyd received the standard punishment for first time OWI offenders in the state of Indiana. This includes a 90 day suspension of his license. Additionally, he must pay court costs, attend a Victim’s Impact Panel, and use an ignition interlock device in his car for six months. For those of you who don’t know what an ignition interlock device does, it’s a breathalyzer that gets plugged into your car. You have to blow into it to start your car and if there is any alcohol on your breath, the car does not start and it is considered a probation violation.

Brian Kelly has previously stated that he is optimistic about Floyd playing in the season opener.
