Kansas freshman quarterback Brock Berglund pleaded not guilty to an April assault in a Colorado court on Monday, which means Berglund won’t miss the Jayhawks’ training camp, which begins next week. All of this could probably have been avoided if Berglund had stayed in school in the spring.

He is charged after third-degree assault after allegedly punching a man April 9 during a party in Sedalia, a town about 25 miles southwest of Denver.
His attorney issued a statement Monday saying Berglund, who had enrolled at KU early but left the campus in the spring, will report to training camp Aug. 3.
Obviously, Berglund could have gotten in a scrap in Lawrence, had he stayed to finish his spring semester on campus. But beginning your college career by enrolling early, then going home, and then allegedly assaulting someone? An inauspicious beginning, especially for a three-star prospect seen as Kansas’ quarterback of the future.
