NCAA Questioning Miami Over Claims By Former Booster Nevin Shapiro

According to a report, the NCAA is investigating the University of Miami over allegations made by a former booster who is currently in prison.

Last year, Nevin Shapiro, a prominent Miami booster currently serving a 30-year sentence for operating a $900 million Ponzi scheme, claimed he was going to write a tell-all book exposing the University of Miami Hurricanes football program. The book was said outline various violations committed by players and coaches.

According a report by InsideTheU Sunday night, the NCAA is finally investigating some of or all of the claims that Shapiro was getting at.

The NCAA will be meeting with “a number” of people Monday to try to gain more knowledge of the situation and a possible wrongdoing.

His involvement with UM dates back to 2001 during the Larry Coker and Randy Shannon-coached teams.

“Larry Coker was blissfully ignorant (to Shapiro) and Randy Shannon hated that guy and didn’t want anything to do with him,” one source said.

Shapiro reportedly wanted to write the book and spill the beans in order to make money to payback those he bilked in the scheme.

We’ll wait to see whether or not this has legs. In the meantime, keep an eye on Miami blog The 7th Floor for reaction and updates.
