Oregon State CB Brandon Hardin Has Shoulder Surgery, Will Be Out Indefinitely

Hardin is the second defensive starter that the Beavers have recently lost to surgery.

Oregon State cornerback Brandon Hardin will be out indefinitely after undergoing shoulder surgery. He is the second defensive starter Oregon State has lost to surgery this week as defensive tackle Kevin Frahm also is out.

Hardin apparently hurt himself during a Saturday practice, but it wasn’t initially believed to be all that serious. But Hardin missed two practices this week as the pain persisted. A MRI on Thursday revealed that he had fractured a bone and that a metal pin needed to be inserted in order for it to heal properly. Hardin is now hoping to be back by the Beavers’ four game on Oct. 1.

Oregon State coach Mike Riley noted that Hardin’s absence is particularly hard because he was a gunner on the punt and kickoff coverage teams:

“He is a really, really good football player,” Riley said. “He impacts things in a lot of ways. He’s not only a good corner, he’s the best gunner in the (conference) and best kick cover guy in the (conference). He impacts field position a ton of ways. We hope he’s back soon.”

In his place, sophomore Rashaad Reynolds is expected to get the start. The defensive backfield, once believed to be one of the Beavers' strengths, is now down to just one returning starter.
