Alabama wide receiver Duron Carter practiced with his new teammates for the first time on Monday, Izzy Gould of al.com reports.
Duron Carter Officially Enrolled At Alabama, Practices With Tide
Carter resolved a transcript issue that had delayed his transfer from Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College and kept him from participating during the offseason and summer workouts. The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Carter began his college career at Ohio State University, where his father Cris Carter, a former NFL wide receiver and current ESPN analyst, was a legendary player.
Carter caught 13 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown as a freshman in 2009 before academic issues prompted his decision to withdraw from school and enroll at Coffeyville, where Carter caught 44 passes for 690 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
Though Carter is not expected to see much playing time against Kent State on Saturday, he will eventually be asked to produce at a high level in an offense that lost Julio Jones to the NFL last season, and will lose senior wideouts Marquis Maze and Darius Hanks after 2011.
”The competition in the SEC, I think Duron can live up to it,” the elder Carter said of his son earlier this month. “There’s a lot of room for him to grow as a football player. He’s still very young at 20. I think he’s gonna be a good player, and I think Alabama fans will be proud that Duron came and played for ‘Bama.”
