Jordan Jefferson’s Lawyer Believes Client Is Victim Of His Own Celebrity

Attorneys for LSU Tigers Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns and the four alleged victims in an August 19 bar brawl are speaking out about the case, Jim Kleinpeter of The Times-Picayune reports. Of the four players implicated in the incident, Jefferson and Johns were the only two arrested by Baton Rouge Police. Both face second-degree battery charges.

According to Jefferson’s attorney, Lewis Unglesby, the quarterback is a victim of his own celebrity.

"It should have been nothing," Unglesby said. "If you're going to charge people, you give a whole bunch of people misdemeanor summons and you figure it out later. That's what they would have done if his name was Jordan Jones. This is all about his status."

Jefferson and Jones were suspended for Saturday’s night game against No. 3 Oregon at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Michael Bienvenu, the lawyer for the alleged victims, takes issue with the incident being characterized as a fight.

“They (his clients) didn’t throw a punch; they didn’t do anything to provoke it,” Bienvenu said. “It was an attack by 10-15 people who have yet to be identified but who need to be identified for justice to be served in the case.”

The Baton Rouge Police Department’s investigation is ongoing.
