Oklahoma Vs. FSU Final Score: Sooners Firm Up Grip On No. 1 Ranking

The No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners and No. 5 Florida St. Seminoles played a brutal, hard-hitting game that ended in a 23-13 victory for Landry Jones and company. It was rarely pretty, but anybody who thought Oklahoma's Big 12 defense couldn't outbrawl a talented opponent must have been impressed.

After backup FSU quarterback Clint Trickett fired a third-and-28 touchdown to Rashad Greene to knot it up at 13-all, the Sooners responded quickly. Jones bombed a 37-yard touchdown to Kenny Stills, who made his second amazing catch of the night. After the score, he held up a one and a two with his hands, a show of recognition for late teammate Austin Box.

On the Noles' opportunity to tie it back up, Trickett had a pass tipped by a linebacker that led to Javon Harris' second interception of the game. With five minutes left, OU looked to be in good condition and set about whittling down the clock.

The Sooners started letting the clock run all the way down on each snap, sending Dominique Whaley up the middle repeatedly, acquiring two first downs before FSU started using their time outs. With two minutes left, Jimmy Stevens kicked a worrying knuckler over the bar to make it 23-13, Oklahoma.

A stern pass rush by Oklahoma didn’t give Trickett much of a chance to reverse FSU’s fortunes, and the game of the early season was won.
