With the exception of three years during World War II, and a three-year break from 2003-2005, the BYU Cougars and Utah State Aggies have faced one another in each season since 1922. The Cougars dominated the series for much of the last few decades, but the Aggies' potent ground game churned out 242 yards in a 31-16 win over BYU in Logan last season.
BYU Vs. Utah State Game Time, TV Schedule, Spread And More
BYU looks to avenge last year’s loss to in-state rival Utah State.
The Aggies are 1-2 on the season, with their two losses coming by a combined five points. Four of those were in a season-opening road loss to the defending national champion Auburn Tigers, with the other coming last week in a doubl overtime home loss to Colorado State. Once again, the Aggies ground attack is led by junior running back Robert Turbin, who scored a career-high four rushing touchdowns and is coming off the 10th 100-yard rushing game of his college career.
Solid performances from their defense and special teams units allowed the Cougars to hang on for a seven-point win over the Central Florida Knights last Friday night. Sophomore wide receiver Cody Hoffman returned a kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown, while the offense racked up a season-high 127 yards on the ground, including 52 yards and a touchdown from Bryan Kariya. The Cougars will need a more consistent performance from sophomore quarterback Jake Heaps, who had his first 300-yard passing game against Utah two weeks ago, but completed less than 50 percent of his passes last week and has struggled with interceptions (5) this season.
