BYU Vs. Utah State: Cougars Take Advantage Of Bouncing Ball In 27-24 Win

Our dutiful narrator says, “Here’s a video of what BYU does when they beat a 2-2 WAC team.” Unfair, sir. That’s a 1-3 WAC team.

Utah State beat BYU last year, but if that’s the standard then you can expect field-rushery the next time BYU beats Air Force and Nevada as well, maybe. The Aggies are also pretty good and are just a few plays away from being 4-0 right now. But they’re 1-3.

Di Luigi found a bit of redemption late, as well. It was his fumble that nearly gave Utah State a chance to ice the game in the fourth, but the BYU defense was able to force a three-and-out, giving the offense one more shot at the win with time running out.

Frustration during a close football game is understandable, if not natural. After making a crucial mistake, football players tend to let out some pent up aggression, much like baseball players do when taking a bat to a Gatorade jug. But what BYU’s J.J. Di Luigi did after a critical fourth quarter is not advisable.

Field goal shanks are always fun, especially when they’re so far outside, the net behind the uprights doesn’t even factor into the equation. We were treated to one such shank on Friday night as BYU lined up for a 47-yard field goal attempt with a chance to cut Utah State’s lead to five in the third quarter.

The kick had plenty of leg, but there was one small problem...
