Robert Griffin III To The NFL Draft: Where Will He Land?

Robert Griffin III is reportedly one step closer to throwing his name in the ring for the 2012 NFL draft. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on Jan. 1 that the Baylor Bears quarterback planned to enter the draft and on Tuesday he reported that Griffin III was in the process of telling Baylor coach Art Briles that he will not return to Baylor. Mort also reports that Griffin III is in the process of selecting an agent.

This is the move everyone expected and, with USC's Matt Barkley and Oklahoma's Landry Jones returning to school, Griffin III should solidify himself as the No. 2 quartebrack behind Stanford's Andrew Luck.

Griffin III will likely be a top five pick and he could create some trade action at the top of the draft. The Indianapolis Colts are expected to take Luck with the first pick while the St. Louis Rams, who already have Sam Bradford, own the second pick. The Minnesota Vikings hold the third pick but they selected Christian Ponder in the first round last year so it's believed they're unlikely to select another quarterback that high. Those two teams could auction off the pick to anyone who wants Griffin III.

And then there's the Cleveland Browns, who have the fourth overall pick. That's where SB Nation's latest 2012 NFL mock draft thinks he'll land. The Browns have Colt McCoy on the roster but it's unclear whether they view him as the future quarterback. If a team is interested in Griffin III, they might have to move ahead of the Browns in the fourth slot, which would create trading opportunities for the Rams and Vikings.

SB Nation’s Mocking The Draft has a number of teams listed who could be in the RG3 sweepstakes.
