East-West Shrine Game 2012: Coastal Carolina CB Josh Norman Turning Heads

The East-West Shrine Game is an excellent opportunity for under-the-radar NFL draft hopefuls to catch the eye of NFL talent evaluators. One such player who is taking advantage of his opportunity to impress scouts is Coastal Carolina cornerback Josh Norman.

Former NFL wide receiver and scout Bucky Brooks, now an analyst for NFL.com, calls the 6-foot-1, 203-pound Norman the “star of the week”, impressing with his ball skills and displaying the footwork and and technique to cover wide receivers. Cecil Lammey of the New York Times has also noticed Norman and caught up to him on Wednesday to ask about his ability to break on the football.

“Part of it is knowing the down and distance, counting steps, but mostly I just read the quarterback’s eyes. I’ll watch his eyes from the snap of the ball and I can usually tell when a throw is coming by the look on his face. When I see the look, I just jump the route and go to the football.”

During his four-year career at Coastal Carolina, Norman totaled 196 tackles, including seven for a loss with 13 interceptions and 35 passes defensed.
