The Battle of Florida is happening Saturday night. The annual match-up is dfinitely not the most high-profile college football all-star game, it may have the best marketing department.
The Battle Of Florida, Bobby Bowden, Gin Blossoms And Boxing Gloves
The game itself is touted as “an all-star football matchup for NFL draft-eligible collegiate players with ties to the state of Florida,” but the real key is the coaching match-up between Bobby Bowden and Howard Schnellenberger.
It would seem difficult to make an exciting promotional piece based around those two, but that wasn’t the case for the Battle of Florida marketers -- they just put them in boxing gloves and then sent them out in front of the media (picture and video below)!
If that wasn’t enough to bring the fans to watching on a Saturday night, the Battle of Florida will feature a meet and greet with everyone’s favorite band (from 1996), the Gin Blossoms.
The game kicks off at 8 p.m. ET on Florida’s regional Fox Sports College station and, if the marketing attempts are any indication, it’s probably worth tuning into if anyone’s alternative is just sitting at home on a Saturday night.
