Bobby Rainey, Lennon Creer Lead West To 24-17 Victory In Shrine Game

Two running backs, Bobby Rainey of Western Kentucky and Lennon Creer of Louisiana Tech led a terrific ground attack, with the help of a dominant offensive line performance, for the West team in a 24-17 victory in the annual late-round draft talent showcase that is the East-West Shrine Game.

Rainey and Creer are undersized, but they were both shifty and fast and attacked every hole they were presented with by a ferocious offensive line, led by Brandon Brooks of Miami (Ohio) at guard, who may have improved his draft stock more than anyone else in the game. Other standouts for the West were CB Shaun Prater from Iowa and USC's DT DaJohn Harris, who were both impressive in holding the East to 17 points.

For the other side of the ball, quarterback B.J. Coleman from Tennessee-Chattanooga was poised and accurate in the pocket in the first half, when the East built a bit of a lead. WR LaRon Byrd, from Miami (Fla.) also showcase an impressive combination of size and strength while catching a touchdown pass. Perhaps the best player on the East team, however, was Wake Forest's Kyle Wilber, who was a disruptive force in the backfield all game long.

There were no first round talents on display in this game, in all likelihood, but several players likely improved their draft stock over the course of the week with practices coached by former NFL head coaches, such as Brad Childress and Bobby Ross.
