Tressel left Ohio State after it was revealed he misled the NCAA regarding benefits that had been accepted by players. He worked for the Indianapolis Colts at a booth assistant during the NFL season and was reportedly in the running for the Colts head coaching job at one point.
The coach worked as a graduate assistant at Akron from 1975 to 1978, his first coaching job.

Jim Tressel didn’t land the Indianapolis Colts head coaching job, but shortly after that rumors emerged that Tressel was looking to return to university life by becoming a college administrator. It now appears that Tressel will join the University of Akron in an administrative position, according to Pat Galbincea of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
While Tressel and the university are currently discussing a deal, the Plain Dealer reports that an announcement is set to be made at 10 a.m. ET. The school became interested in adding Tressel when he helped in the school’s head coaching search that resulted in the hiring of Terry Bowden.

Tressel joined the Colts staff midway through last season as a gameday consultant. His role in the memorabilia-for-tattoos scandal at Ohio State last year would make him a difficult sell for fans and media wherever he ultimately lands his next coaching gig.
