National No. 1 seed Sam Houston State has gotten through the 2011 FCS Playoffs to the 2012 FCS Championship by staying home at Huntsville, Texas. But while the Bearkats have put together the most remarkable season in their program’s history and run the table to this point, they have been especially good in the heart of Texas.
FCS Championship 2012: Sam Houston State Looks To Remain Texas Tough
By virtue of playing in the Southland Conference and earning the No. 1 seed, the Bearkats have gotten to play 11 games in the Lone Star State: Nine at home in Huntsville, one at Reliant Stadium in Houston, and one in San Marcos against Texas State. In those 11 games, Sam Houston State has outscored its opponents 424-139; strip out the Bearkats’ three playoff home games, and the margin was 310-71.
That’s dominance — an average margin of victory of 25.9 points per game — that the Bearkats will hope to have happen again at the FCS Championship, played at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco.
