Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Landry Jones will return for his senior season instead of entering the 2012 NFL Draft, the school announced Thursday.
NFL Draft Experts: Landry Jones Made Wise Decision To Stay At Oklahoma
SB Nation’s NFL Draft blog Mocking The Draft says Jones made the wise decision because, quite simply, he wasn’t ready for the NFL.
On numerous occasions, Jones had trouble picking up the blitz and threw bad passes. The physical skills are there for Jones. He has nice size. His arm is strong. But it's the mental part of the game that's left people wondering. The negatives in Jones' game were only compounded following an injury to star go-to wide receiver Ryan Broyles. In the four games Broyles missed, Jones threw just one touchdown compared to six interceptions.
Jones now gets the benefit of working out the kinks as part of a high-profile offense for a high-profile college football program playing high-profile talent. If his passing and scoring numbers hold and improve, he’ll be in a great position for the NFL next year.
