The Hurry Up, Jan. 9: College Football Headlines For Monday

The most tainted and interrupted college football season in modern history ends with a championship game sure to stir up zero controversy. Elsewhere, transfers and draft commitments and coaching staff fill-ups!

The Hurry Up runs weekdays at SBNation.com’s college football news hub.

Games

Ahhhh yes, the SOPA GoDaddy Bowl, which provided the world with one last taste of MACtion before the college football season ended. Now it’s on to recruiting season, and we can all -- wait ... really? Again?

Apparently there’s another game Monday night, featuring two teams that have already played each other. Probably not a big deal. There was also a press conference about it, which Nick Saban somehow won. We trust you’ll visit LSU blog And the Valley Shook and Alabama blog Roll Bama Roll to learn more about whatever this thing is.

(And do we need to talk about what happens if Alabama wins? We do.)

Also over the weekend: North Dakota State wins a national title at yet another level, and SMU blasts Pitt in the Sun Devil Coach Prospects Bowl,

News

Bill O'Brien has been introduced at Penn State, promising a new coaching staff within days. He's already started, picking up a running backs coach from the Titans. SI.com: School had to go outside Penn State family to show it's moving forward.

Leaving us: UCF corner Josh Robinson, Michigan State back Edwin Baker and Ole Miss tackle Bobby Massie are headed to the NFL Draft.

Not leaving us: LSU terror Sam Montgomery and FSU DB Greg Reid.

Mike Gundy: a man with a big new contract.

Terry Bowden’s loss is Rich Rodriguez’ gain, as always (not really as always): top returning tackler Brian Wager is leaving Akron for the desert.

After some delay, USC stud Amir Carlisle is heading to Notre Dame.

Charlie Weis' latest Kansas pickup: former Oklahoma receiver Justin McCay.

Memphis coach Justin Fuente has a quarterback, adding Texas Tech transfer Jacob Karam.

Georgia redshirt sophomore DB Jordan Love will follow his heart elsewhere.

An extra year for UNC fullback Devon Ramsey, who shredded his knee in the Heels’ season opener.

Virginia transfer quarterback Michael Strauss lands at Richmond.

Recruiting

For one thing, star cornerback Roland Darby has ditched the Irish, with his eye on the ACC -- but many, many other recruiting things happened this weekend, including the U.S. Army game, and I’ll just point you in this direction for all that and then some.

And So Forth

The guy from the Honey Badger video picks LSU. Of course.

Could we see another 6-3 game? Kirby Smart thinks not, and he’s pretty Smart, so.
