Former Arizona Wildcats coach Mike Stoops is expected to rejoin his brother Bob Stoops' Oklahoma Sooners program, perhaps as a co-defensive coordinator, according to Dean Blevins of Norman's News 9. He'd also take over for maligned secondary coach Willie Martinez, who's reportedly been drawing interest from the Illinois Fighting Illini and others.
Mike Stoops Could Rejoin Oklahoma Football Staff, According To Report
Former Arizona coach Mike Stoops could work with his brother again in Oklahoma.
Stoops coached at OU as an assistant from 1999 to 2003 before getting the Wildcats job. He had a 41-50 record as a head coach, but his time in Norman included a national championship. He's also coached on the Kansas St. Wildcats and Iowa Hawkeyes staffs.
At one point, Stoops was heavily connected with an Ohio St. Buckeyes co-coordinator role, but obviously that didn't happen. That would tend to suggest he's interested in this sort of a gig, however.
