The Iowa Hawkeyes have added two names to their coaching staff, both of which should be very familiar around Iowa City. LeVar Woods will take over the linebackers after being named the interim defensive line coach following the 2011 season. Brian Ferentz, son of head coach Kirk, will coach the offensive line after spending this past season with the New England Patriots, where he coached tight ends (and did a pretty all right job at that).
Iowa Adds Brian Ferentz, LeVar Woods To Coaching Staff
Brian Ferentz and LeVar Woods should be familiar names to Iowa fans. Woods was taken on as the interim defensive line coach after the season, while Ferentz is the son of head coach, Kirk.
Woods’ promotion doesn’t come as much of surprise. Ferentz, however, had been doing a solid job in the professional ranks, and is presumably taking a pay cut to join his father. The hire has rightfully sparked speculation that the 28-year-old Ferentz is poised to progress up the ranks within the program.
The Hawkeyes are still on the prowl for a new offensive coordinator to close out their staff. Citadel head coach Kevin Higgins was approached for the opening, but opted to stay put.
