First of all, with as many recruits as the Michigan Wolverines have brought aboard so far this year month, one can be excused for forgetting who is and isn't a Michigan recruit yet. Clearly Roy Roundtree and Kenny Demens have no idea who Brady Hoke has secured for 2013, and are just congratulating everybody they encounter.
Michigan Players Earn Recruiting Violation By Acting Like Normal Humans
Oh, right. From the actual story:
Roundtree and Demens tweeted to linebacker Mike McCray of Trotwood-Madison High School in Ohio after the highly touted prospect decided to play for the Wolverines. NCAA rules prohibit messages being sent to recruits through social media from accounts affiliated with someone from the school.
Since McCray isn’t allowed by the NCAA to sign with Michigan yet, and has only been allowed to say he intends to sign 11 months from now, his future teammates have to pretend he doesn’t exist.
And the second thing! This happens pretty much every day, even with uncommitted players. And it happens pretty much every minute, if we’re including messages the NCAA can’t see. The fun part is that recruits are allowed to recruit for a school they haven’t signed with yet, but that school’s actual players aren’t.
It’s fun watching players recruit their high school associates, but even more fun watching them enroll and then learn how to do it without breaking rules. The really advanced players announce new commits before anybody else does, but avoid naming names. Because that would be cheating, somehow.
By the way, congratulations on being recruited to Michigan probably, dear reader.
