Phillip Sims Transfer: Virginia Lands Former Alabama QB

Former Alabama Crimson Tide back up quarterback Phillip Sims decided to transfer from the Alabama program, as the quarterback was looking to play somewhere closer to home. Sims has enrolled at the University of Virginia, and it looks like he'll be playing for the Virginia Cavaliers, according to a report by ESPN's Joe Schad.

Sims is from Chesapeake, which is about three hours from Virginia's campus in Charlottesville, VA. Sims was behind Alabama starting quarterback, sophomore A.J. McCarron, who just helped the Crimson Tide win the BCS National Championship, so it didn't look like Sims would get playing time anytime soon, instead opting to transfer back to his home state. Sims saw minor action during the 2011 season, but didn't play in the final five games.
