Jerry Sandusky Trial: Step Son Was Reportedly Ready To Testify Against Father

Jerry Sandusky was expected to take the stand in his trial, but after a meeting in Judge John Cleland’s chambers between the prosecution and defense, the defense decided to not put Sandusky on the stand. Sandusky’s adopted son, Matt Sandusky, was reportedly set to take the stand for the prosecution if Jerry Sandusky chose to testify in his own defense. Sandusky’s son contacted the prosecution after the case had began and offered to give up damning evidence in the case against his adopted father, according to NBC’s report.

Sandusky has also had three of his 51 counts thrown out by the judge, according to an Associated Press report.

Judge John Cleland has dismissed two counts of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse related to the alleged sexual abuse of an accuser known as Victim 4. Cleland says the charges did not bear out what testimony revealed.

The judge also removed one count on the terms that it was a repeat charge. Cleland said that if he had not thrown out those charges, any conviction based on those charges would have to be set aside because the verdict would not have been supported by the evidence the prosecution presented.

The two sides are set to begin closing arguments on Thursday morning followed by jury deliberation.
