Boise State Officially Announces Departure From Mountain West For Big East

After agreeing to bolt from the Mountain West after just two years of competition, Boise State had vacillated on whether or not it would actually go through with taking the Broncos of the blue turf from the Mountain West to the Big East for much of 2012. On Saturday, news broke that the Broncos would indeed do so; Sunday brought the school’s official announcement.

“There is no doubt that conference affiliation is a difficult and complex issue, but I am very pleased where we stand today and excited for the future prospects of all of our Bronco sports,” commented Boise State President Dr. Bob Kustra.

The Broncos will compete in the Big East in football in 2012, and move their non-football sports from the Mountain West to the Big West for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Boise State finished second to TCU in the Mountain West in 2011, but won’t have to contend with the Big 12-bound Horned Frogs in 2012.
