Tulsa will leave Conference USA to join the to-be-renamed Big East for the 2014 football season, according to ESPN's Brett McMurphy. East Carolina will join them as a full member in 2014, although by that point the conference will be named something besides the Big East.
Tulsa joining Big East in 2014: The list of teams it will join
The Golden Hurricane are leaving Conference USA after eight successful seasons.
Tulsa was one of the better football programs in Conference USA since the Golden Hurricane arrived there in 2005 from the WAC, compiling a record of 72-34.
As of March, 2013, here is what the Big East membership will look like at the start of the 2014 season:
- Connecticut
- Cincinnati
- East Carolina
- Houston
- Memphis
- South Florida
- SMU
- Temple
- Tulane
- Tulsa
- UCF
Navy is also scheduled to join the conference as a football only member in 2015, getting the league back to 12 members. However, considering the conference’s lack of success at adding new teams over the past two years, it may be a little early to say all these teams will still be there in 2014.
