Auburn Tigers head football coach Gene Chizik confirmed Wednesday that quarterback Zeke Pike has officially been dismissed from the team.

Pike, who was unlikely to start for the Tigers this season but was pegged as the quarterback of the future for the program, was picked up for public intoxication earlier this summer and had faced a rash of disciplinary issues while in high school in Edgewood, Ky.

A three-star prospect out of high school, Pike is a true freshman who will likely be pursued by a number of schools, but where he will land and whether he’ll get a chance to start immediately still remain open questions.

Chizik sent Pike back home following his arrest for public intoxication, after he had been on campus as an enrolled student since January. Pike had also participated in spring practice.

The departure leaves the Tigers with just three scholarship quarterbacks entering fall practice, with sophomore Kiehl Frazier and junior Clint Moseley splitting reps and competing for the starting job.
