The BYU Cougars football team is gearing up to begin their 2012 season, but they are getting it started with some fairly unfortunate news. On Tuesday, the team received news that it would be losing two offensive linemen permanently, likely causing some scrambling to be done over the final weeks of preseason preparation.

Brandon Gurney of the Deseret News reports that sophomore Fono Vakalahi and senior Walter Kahaialii will not be returning. Vakalahi has announced that he intends to transfer, while Kahaialii is out with chronic knee issues and has gone on the record as saying that he will not be returning to football.

Vakalahi earned letterman honors as a true freshman in 2009 but was not on the roster in 2010 and 2011. Kahaialii lettered in 2011 in his junior year and played in all 13 games.
