The preseason Associated Press top 25 will be released today at 10:00 a.m. ET, giving the college football world its full compliment of major polls before the season gets underway. This poll should be more interesting than most preseason polls, though, because it is the first one of note to be released after LSU dismissed Tyrann Mathieu.

LSU was ranked number one in the coaches’ poll, but Alabama had more first place votes and the Tigers were just barely ahead of the Crimson Tide. Odds are that with the AP voters casting their ballots in the post-Mathieu world, LSU won’t be number one.
In addition to Alabama, that opens the door for USC, who also had more first place votes than LSU in the coaches' poll. The Trojans are expected to have one of the most explosive offenses in the country, led by Matt Barkley, Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and the newly added Silas Reed.
USC received the most first place votes in SB Nation’s BlogPoll and were ranked second to LSU. Mathieu’s absence should vault the Trojans over the Tigers in the newest edition of the BlogPoll when it is released next week.
But while everybody talks about LSU, Alabama and USC, it is worth keeping an eye on Oregon. The Ducks were third in SB Nation's video countdown, ahead of the Trojans, and the reports out of fall camp are very encouraging. That is especially true of new quarterback Bryan Bennett, who is enormously talented and has the luxury of having De'Anthony Thomas and Kenjon Barner in his backfield. The Ducks could very well be in the conversation of the best in the country before long, if not when the AP poll is released.
