USC Transfer Kyle Prater Eligible To Play For Northwestern

Kyle Prater has been granted a residence waiver, allowing him to play immediately for Northwestern this year after transferring from USC.

Kyle Prater decided to transfer closer to home after registering just a single catch during last season for the USC Trojans as a redshirt freshman. The wide receiver received better news than being able to play closer to home this week, however, as he'll be able to play immediately for the Northwestern Wildcats.

Northwestern announced earlier this week that Prater received a “residence waiver” from the NCAA, allowing him to bypass the one-year wait period traditionally required of transfers in FBS football.

“Kyle has worked extremely hard since coming to Northwestern to prepare himself for this season and it’s great that he will be rewarded for that effort,” said Wildcats Head Coach Pat Fitzgerald. “We’re happy to see him return to the football field and get the chance to play in front of his friends and family here in Chicago.”

It’s unclear what sort of immediate impact he’ll be able to have on the Wildcats, but it certainly has to be nice that he won’t have to sit out a season -- and that he’ll be able to play in front of his friends and family, too.
