Notre Dame Football: Amir Carlisle Also No-Go For Navy

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish will be playing their season opener on Saturday in Dublin, Ireland against the Navy Midshipmen without running back Amir Carlisle, according to Eric Hansen.

The Southern California transfer has been ruled out, likely due to his continuing recovery from a broken ankle suffered in the spring, but coach Brian Kelly believes he'll be back in action sooner rather than later. The Irish will be competing against Navy with a very short-handed roster. The team is already without Cierre Wood, who was suspended for the first two games of the season due to a violation of team rules. Defensive end Justin Utupo also brought the same fate down upon him.

Of course, starting quarterback Tommy Rees and linebacker Carlo Calabrese are also inactive for the game for their roles in a tussle with police in May. However, those two will be back in time for the home opener against the Purdue Boilermakers on Sept. 8.
