When the season kicks off on Saturday for Illinois it will begin an era under new head coach Tim Beckman. With Beckman in charge, the Fighting Illini are expected to debut a new no-huddle, spread offense ran by junior quarterback Nathan Scheelhaase.

Illinois and Western Michigan kick off their seasons on Saturday in a battle between two experienced quarterbacks.


Despite having started every game in each of the last two seasons, Scheelhaase won't be the most experienced quarterback on the field, though, as WMU will start fifth-year senior, Alex Carder. The offensive team captain in each of the last two years for the Broncos, Carder's 3,873 passing yards in 2011 set a team record.
