While many college football teams open their season against a FCS opponent or other non-conference foe, the Miami Hurricanes and Boston College Eagles will jump right into ACC play with their season opening matchup. The Hurricanes, who are coming off of a disappointing 6-6 season, will travel to Boston to face the Eagles. Boston College is trying to rebound from a 4-8 season in 2011.

If the Eagles are going to improve, they are going to need to be better offensively. Last season, they ranked 112th out of 120 teams in offensive yards per game. If they are going to improve, junior quarterback Chase Rettig will likely be a big reason why. Rettig threw for 1,960 yards last season, but completed just 53.6 percent of his passes and threw nearly as many interceptions (9) as he did touchdowns (12).
The good news for Boston College is Rettig played arguably his best game last season against Miami. In a 24-17 Boston College win, Rettig completed 13-of-17 passes for 196 yards and two touchdowns.
While Boston College has a returning quarterback, Miami will try to replace Jacory Harris. Junior Stephen Morris will get the start against the Eagles, winning the job over transfer Ryan Williams. Morris played in five games last season, completing 26-of-37 passes for 283 yards.
There will be plenty of other new faces on offense for Miami Saturday as the Hurricanes are without their leading rusher and top two receivers from last season.
Game time, TV channel: 3:30 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN2
Point spread: Miami favored by two points
