Rex Burkhead Injury: Nebraska Star Done For The Day

Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Rex Burkhead is out for the remainder of Saturday's game against Southern Mississippi with an MCL sprain, according to Huskers Gameday.

Burkhead had just scored on a 57-yard touchdown run to put Nebraska out in front, 7-0. However, Burkhead will now watch from the sidelines with his team currently winning 21-14 in the second quarter.

The senior star out of Plano, Texas, was the main cog in the Cornhuskers attack in 2011, rushing for 1,357 yards and scoring 17 touchdowns. The No. 17 team in the nation again expects to lean on Burkhead who, at 5’11 and 220 pounds, is a bowling-ball of a man.

It's unclear at this point how much time Burkhead will miss, but the schedule is favorable for the next few weeks if he does require some rest. Nebraska doesn't play a ranked team until Sept. 29, when they take on the Wisconsin Badgers.
