Pittsburgh opened its 2012 season 0-2, and it won’t get any easier for the Panthers, as they are set to face No. 13 Virginia Tech (2-0) on Saturday.

The Panthers will host the Hokies, who are coming off a 42-7 win over Austin Peay. Virginia Tech is led offensively by junior quarterback Logan Thomas. Thomas is off to a solid start in 2012, having completed 59 percent of his passes during Virginia Tech’s first two games. The Hokies started the season with two wins at home and will go on the road for the first time this weekend.
Pittsburgh has gotten off to a rough start this season, losing to Cincinnati 34-10 last week. The Panthers fell to 0-2 with the loss, having lost 31-17 to Youngstown State to open the season. The Pittsburgh offense has really struggled, with their 13.5 PPG ranking 111th in the country. The defense hasn’t been much better allowing 32.5 PPG, good for 94th in the country.
The two teams have not played since 2003. Pittsburgh won that game 31-28 although Virginia Tech leads the all-time series, 7-4.
