Halftime: UConn Vs. Maryland Is All Kinds Of Rangoon

If you bought tickets to the Edsall Bowl, I am sorry, and please find me for a free hug and chicken flavored Top Ramen cup. The halftime stats are a treasure trove of Edsall goodness, filled with hard-hitting numbers and big play booms.

Let’s go inside the box score. This is not suitable for children under 13.

  • UConn quarterback Chandler Whitmer took time out of his busy schedule of hanging at Central Perk to go 7-10 with 41 yards. You can’t pay the mortgage in downfield passes.
  • For Maryland, Perry Hills is 2-11 with an interception. Woof.
  • Lyle McCombs of the Huskies (where is UConn getting these guys, an F. Scott Fitzgerald book?) has 19 carries and 64 yards.
  • Stefon Diggs has one carry for zero yards.
  • Maryland is averaging 2.8 yards per play and has five first downs. But hey, they’re still doing a better job than Wake Forest is against Florida State.
  • Connecticut has a punter named Cole Wagner and a kicker named Chad Christen.
  • Wes Brown’s 19-yard touchdown run was the second biggest play from scrimmage. The longest run was by McCombs -- who rushed 20 yards before fumbling.
  • There is a punt return for a touchdown. That’s the most impressive play of the game.

Stay tuned in the second half for more fun and footbzzzzzzzzzzz ...
