Wake Forest Vs. FSU Final Score: Noles Treat ACC Foe Like They Did Murray State

The Florida State Seminoles completely dominated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday afternoon at Doak S. Campbell Stadium by a final score of 52-0. It was the first time in school history the Seminoles scored 50 points in three consecutive games.

Things started out slowly for both teams, but after going up 14-0 in the first quarter, Florida State completely broke the game open in the second quarter and went into halftime with a 38-0 lead.

But after the first half offensive explosion, things would slow considerably for the Seminoles who appeared to take their foot off the gas pedal. They would score just one touchdown in both the third and fourth quarters.

In the fourth, head coach Jimbo Fisher pulled his starting quarterback, E.J. Manuel, and inserted backup Clint Trickett. Fisher also played third-string quarterback Jacob Coker in the ball game.

The Seminoles racked up 612 yards of total offense, compared to the Demon Deacon’s 126 yards. The win brings the Seminoles record to 3-0 on the season while Wake Forest moves to 2-1.

Box Score Hero: Florida State tailback Chris Thompson had himself a day. 11 months ago he broke two vertebrae in his back against this same Wake Forest squad. On Saturday, he got his revenge as he broke the Demon Deacon’s backs by rushing for 197 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. The senior had back-to-back touchdown scores of 74 and 80 yards in the second quarter. He needed just three yards to become the first 200-yard rusher for Florida State since 1988.

Rankings Ramifications: Florida State entered the game tied for fifth place in the AP Top 25 with the Oklahoma Sooners. After playing a much weaker opponent in Savannah State the week prior, a dominating ACC victory over Wake Forest could potentially move the Seminoles up slightly in the rankings. We'll just have to wait and see.

But Did They Cover? Florida State entered the game as a 25 point favorite over Wake Forest. They doubled that margin, easily.
