Navy Vs. Penn State Final Score: Nittany Lions Roll To First Win Of Season, 34-7

The Penn State Nittany Lions, and first-year head coach Bill O'Brien, earned their first victory of the season with ease on Saturday, pummeling the Navy Midshipmen, 34-7, at Beaver Stadium.

Quarterback Matt McGloin threw four touchdown passes for Penn State, three to Allen Robinson, and the Nittany Lions were able to rebound from crushing early-season losses to Ohio and Virginia in earning the win.

Statistically, Navy actually outgained Penn State 371 total yards to 341 yards, and also won the time of possession battle, but the advantage on the stat sheet meant very little on the field, as the Midshipmen did not even score until the 10-minute mark of the fourth quarter.

Box Score Hero: Much-maligned Nittany Lions quarterback Matt McGloin. The senior was 13-of-21 passing on the day, for 231 yards and four touchdowns. Allen Robinson deserves a tip of the cap as well, after catching five balls from McGloin for 136 yards and three touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team was ranked entering this game, and despite the dominant win by the Nittany Lions to get them off the schneid, the victory will do little in terms of the polls.

But Did They Cover? The Nittany Lions were 6½ point favorites in Saturday’s matchup, and had the spread covered for the afternoon just four minutes into the contest.
