The Western Michigan Broncos were in control for the whole game, but couldn't quite put the Connecticut Huskies away. The important thing for the Broncos, though, is that they were able to hold on for a 30-24 win.
Connecticut Vs. Western Michigan Final Score: Broncos Hold Off Huskies, 30-24
Broncos QB Alex Carder was 18-34 for 237 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with an injury late in the third quarter.
The Broncos jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first half behind two rushing touchdowns, but a Ryan Griffin touchdown catch made it a 10-point game before halftime. Carder connected with Josh Schaffer for a 30-yard touchdown after halftime to make it a 24-7 game, but UConn was able to make it a one-score game before a Chandler Whitmer fumble was returned for a touchdown by Desmond Bozeman with 7:22 left in the game. The Huskies added one last touchdown with 1:15 remaining on a Whitmer pass to Geremy Davis, but it was too little too late.
Whitmer had 333 yards passing and three touchdowns, but his two turnovers ended up haunting UConn.
