Virginia Tech wide receiver D.J. Coles is likely to miss the rest of the 2012 season because of a knee injury, according to a report from the Washington Post. Coles suffered the injury after making a reception in the first quarter of Virginia Tech’s 20-17 win over Georgia Tech on Monday.

He has yet to undergo an MRI, so the precise nature of the injury is unknown at this point. He also had offseason surgery to repair a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee and had only recently been cleared to return to the field. The injury suffered against the Yellow Jackets occurred in the same knee but is reportedly unrelated to the torn PCL.

Coles caught 36 passes for 480 yards and three touchdowns for Virginia Tech in 2011.
