Arizona kicked off the Rich Rodgriguez era with a 24-17 win against Toledo. Arizona racked up 624 total yards on offense, including 387 passing yards. Senior quarterback Matt Scott completed 30 of 46 passes for 387 yards and two touchdowns. Arizona also ran for 237 yards, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Ka'Deem Carey led the way with 147 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.
While Arizona racked up the sixth-most offensive yards during the first week, Oklahoma State led the country with 682 total yards during their 84-0 win against Savannah State. OSU scored 35 points in the first quarter and led 49-0 at halftime. Freshman starting quarterback Wes Lunt got his collegiate career off to a good start by completing 11 of 11 passes for 129 yards. Oklahoma State also had two different running backs eclipse 100 yards for the game.
After the two teams combined for 1,306 yards in their season openers, Saturday’s game is not likely to be short on offense.
