Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin left the game against Virginia in the second quarter after being hit on his throwing elbow for the second drive in a row. It happened first on a third-and-four pass attempt that fell incomplete.

McGloin took a knee on the field as trainers checked him, but had to be substituted by freshman quarterback Steven Bench. The Nittany Lions went for it on fourth-and-four and Bench was sacked in his only play before McGloin was brought back in the game.

But on the next drive, there was a similar play that sent McGloin to the locker room. McGloin left the game having completed eight of his 14 passes for 57 yards and a touchdowns.

Bench is back in the game for Penn State in his second series with less than four minutes to go until halftime. The Nittany Lions lead, 7-3.
