Austin Peay Vs. Virginia Tech Final Score: Hokies Roll To 42-7 Win Over Governors

The Virginia Tech Hokies had little trouble with the visiting Austin Peay Governors on Saturday, storming out to a 28-0 lead before coasting in for a 42-7 victory in Blacksburg's Lane Stadium.

As a team, Virginia tech amassed 419 yards of total offense to just 221 for the overmatched Governors. Austin Peay mustered just 62 passing yards in the game, with Governors quarterback Jake Ryan going 8-21 with two interceptions.

Box Score Hero: A shared award this week for the Hokies, between quarterback Logan Thomas and running back Michael Holmes. Thomas was 15-of-23 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions, while Holmes ran nine times for 40 yards and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Virginia Tech improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory, but a shellacking of this kind over a modest opponent such as Austin Peay shouldn’t bump the Hokies much at all in the polls.

But Did They Cover? Virginia Tech, 50-point favorites in the game, fell just short of the line.

Next Week’s Schedule: Virginia Tech heads on the road next weekend, to take on the Pitt Panthers at Heinz Field. Austin Peay also plays away from home next Saturday, traveling to Tennessee State.
