As a team, Virginia tech amassed 419 yards of total offense to just 221 for the overmatched Governors. Austin Peay mustered just 62 passing yards in the game, with Governors quarterback Jake Ryan going 8-21 with two interceptions.
Box Score Hero: A shared award this week for the Hokies, between quarterback Logan Thomas and running back Michael Holmes. Thomas was 15-of-23 passing for 212 yards and two touchdowns, with no interceptions, while Holmes ran nine times for 40 yards and two touchdowns.
Rankings Ramifications: Virginia Tech improves to 2-0 on the season with the victory, but a shellacking of this kind over a modest opponent such as Austin Peay shouldn’t bump the Hokies much at all in the polls.
But Did They Cover? Virginia Tech, 50-point favorites in the game, fell just short of the line.
