2013 NFL Draft Guard Rankings

As good of a prospect as David DeCastro was last year, Alabama’s Chance Warmack is even better this year. It’s not easy for an interior offensive lineman to be the best player on the field, particularly in the Southeastern Conference. But in Crimson Tide games, Warmack stands out.

In the 2012 NFL Draft, there was a special talent at guard in David DeCastro. When he dropped to the 24th pick in the first round, it seemed like an indictment on the position. Of the eight guards named to the Pro Bowl last season, two were first-round picks, but two were also undrafted.

As good of a prospect as DeCastro was last year, Alabama’s Chance Warmack is even better this year. It’s not easy for an interior offensive lineman to be the best player on the field, particularly in the Southeastern Conference. But in Crimson Tide games, Warmack stands out. The powerful senior can manhandle defensive tackles and rarely needs double team help.

The drop off after Warmack is significant. There’s good middle-round depth at guard in the 2013 NFL Draft, but Warmack is probably going to be the only first-round pick.
