NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock had a national conference call on Monday, on which he offered up many of his opinions on the 2013 NFL Draft. Mayock spoke mostly on the first round of the draft, talking about which players should go at the top pick to the Kansas City Chiefs, but also gave plenty of specifics for some other teams.

Mike Mayock thinks that Georgia DE/OLB Jarvis Jones “makes a lot of sense” for the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

One such team was the Detroit Lions, who hold the No. 5 overall pick in the draft after a disappointing 4-12 season in which they lost all of their final eight games.
Mayock thinks that the Lions would be best served taking a defensive end like Jarvis Jones at the No. 5 pick, especially if the Lions find that his health concerns aren’t significant enough to pass him up.
"(The Lions) don't need defensive tackles, (they) need more defensive ends, and that's fine," Mayock said. "There are a lot of people that think Damontre Moore is that guy. Jarvis Jones (was) playing in a 4-3 and he's ready to play now."
Moore has been considered a little more raw, while Jones has been a polished pass rusher throughout his entire college career. “If he checks out medically, he’s a top-10 player and hopefully an impact player,” Mayock said. “He’s a guy that makes a lot of sense in Detroit.”
The biggest issue for Jones has been a medical condition called spinal stenosis. His draft stock is all over the place as a result, but as noted by SB Nation’s Pride of Detroit, doctors recently gave Jones medical clearance and his medical reports are being sent to teams around the league.
Dan Kadar of SB Nation released his latest mock draft on Monday, and he actually has the Lions going with Moore at No. 5. Kadar cites Moore’s ability against the run, despite a lack of a strong first step on the pass rush. Detroit needs to add guys who can pass rush and run though, so it’s not a bad trade-off.
In that particular mock, Jones went just a few picks later, to the Buffalo Bills at No. 8.
