NFL Combine 2013: Jarvis Jones’ neck injury raises red flags

Several teams are moving Georgia linebacker Jarvis Jones down their draft boards due to concerns over his spinal stenosis.

Kevin Liles-US PRESSWIRE

Jarvis Jones won’t be participating in any drills at the combine, but that is not what is causing the Georgia linebacker to fall down draft boards around the league.

Several teams are concerned about Jones’ neck, according to Pro Football Talk. Jones left USC after school doctors recommended he quit playing football due to a condition called spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal column.

Prohibited from playing at USC, Jones transferred to Georgia, where he was cleared and became one of the top linebackers in college football. He is considered to be one of the top prospects in the 2013 NFL Draft and could be drafted in the top 10 if teams aren’t scared away by his medical history. The spinal stenosis reportedly has many teams looking to avoid Jones, at least in the first round.

Jones led the nation with 14.5 sacks, 24.5 tackles for loss and seven forced fumbles in 2012. He will work out at the Georgia Pro Day on March 21, but his individual medical tests may have the greatest impact on his draft status.
