The Arizona Cardinals ran through four quarterbacks in 2012, and those four quarterbacks were sacked a total of 58 times as Arizona cruised to a league-worst total offense ranking. Two offensive tackles and a quarterback are already off the board in this 2013 NFL Mock Draft, however (and head coach Bruce Arians is positively brimming with confidence about Drew Stanton), so things get tricky for our resident Cardinals blogger.
2013 NFL mock draft: Barkevious Mingo to Arizona Cardinals
Who knew that Drew Stanton could impact draft plans so heavily?
| Pick | Player | Position | Height | Weight | Class |
| 7. Arizona Cardinals | Barkevious Mingo, LSU | OLB | 6'4" | 241 | JR |
Jess Root: "This is a little bit of a disappointment, but not too much. Obviously, tackle and quarterback would be ideal, but the top three targets Joeckel, Smith and Fisher are all gone. However, since an edge rusher is a need and Mingo is higher on my draft board than Lane Johnson, Mingo is the obvious pick, especially with Jordan off the board. The Cards wanted Von Miller a couple of years ago, but ended up with Patrick Peterson. This is the year they get their big time pass rusher." | ![]() | ||||
Here’s our own Dan Kadar to break down the pick:
This would be a tough scenario for the Cardinals. The two best offensive tackles and the top quarterback are off the board. For some strange reason the Cardinals seem content with Drew Stanton, so it’s unlikely they’d go after a secondary quarterback like Matt Barkley or Mike Glennon. Nor should they. Passing over Lane Johnson is a risky move. That means the Cardinals will probably go another year without adding a franchise left tackle or quarterback.
Mingo isn’t a bad player, though. He could become the pass rusher the Cardinals just don’t have at outside linebacker. Sam Acho is fine on one side, even though he’s not a pass rusher. Mingo can play on the left outside Darnell Dockett.
Coming up at Noon ET, I'll be making pick No. 8 on behalf of Buffalo Rumblings for the Buffalo Bills.
