The NFL pre-draft process continued on Wednesday with a flurry of more news on visits that have been, visits to come, and visits that went down today. There is never any shortage of news as far as college prospects meeting with needy NFL teams before the draft, so let’s not waste any more time.
2013 NFL draft visits: Jaguars set up interesting visit with offensive lineman
Plenty of action around the NFL on Wednesday when it comes to teams meeting with their potential draft picks. Pick up all the latest right here.
- The Jaguars have not been widely linked to either of the top offensive tackle prospects, Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher, but that did not stop them from setting up a meeting with an offensive tackle. Except that is was Lane Johnson out of Oklahoma, the player most consider to be the third-best tackle prospect in the draft. With Jacksonville selecting second overall, could that signal that they are either considering a shocking selection of Johnson over one or both of the other two or perhaps a trade back? Few could imagine that Johnson would still be available to Jacksonville by the second round, so it makes for interesting speculation.
- Jacksonville did officially meet with linebacker Arthur Brown out of Kansas State and cornerback Sanders Commings out of Georgia. Both could be available for the Jaguars after the first round.
- The Denver Broncos are not unfamiliar with taking running backs in the draft and they could be looking for youth at the position, so no surprise that they met with Christine Michael, per his Twitter account. They also set up a visit with safety John Boyett.
- The Detroit Lions, who pick fifth overall, have been as busy as anyone during the pre-draft process. After meeting with Manti Te'o on Tuesday, in addition to previous visits with the likes of Dion Jordan, Dee Milliner, Jarvis Jones, Chance Warmack, Tavon Austin, and Eric Fisher, they also met with some players likely to be available for their later picks. Detroit met with two more offensive lineman on Wednesday: Kent State's Brian Winters and Virginia Tech's Vinston Painter. The Lions could double-dip on the offensive line or perhaps give them freedom to take a player like Milliner in the first.
- Guard and tackle prospect Kyle Long out of Oregon tweets that he was on his way to Cincinnati, signaling that the Bengals could be taking a look at the son of Howie, brother of Chris, in the draft.
- The Chiefs are widely connected to tackle Luke Joeckel this year, but they've got more needs on the offensive line than just that. And some would say they don't even have a need there thanks to Branden Albert. They have set up a visit with guard prospect Edmund Kugbila from lesser-known Valdosta State.
- As the Buffalo Bills prepare themselves for picking eighth overall, they met with their 22nd and 23rd draft prospects of the offseason: Linebacker Alec Ogletree and wide receiver Da'Rick Rogers. The Bills have been linked to all kinds of players during the process, though they have already met with seven quarterbacks. Rogers is the fifth receiver that Buffalo has visited with, while Ogletree is the sixth linebacker.
- A lot of people have mocked Barkevious Mingo out of LSU to the New York Jets, but the Jets have not setup a visit with Mingo. Is that a bad sign? Not necessarily, writes Gang Green Nation.
- The Dolphins are the latest team to set up a meeting with Te’o.
