2013 NFL Draft: David Quessenberry may join military after football career
If football doesn’t workout for Quessenberry, he has an admirable fallback plan.

The versatile lineman, who played multiple positions at the Senior Bowl, told USA Today that if his dream of playing the NFL doesn’t workout, he will enlist in the military, just like his father, brother, uncle and godfather have done before him.
Quessenberry cited camaraderie as a big reason for his love of football. But he also thinks a similar, if not stronger bond is found amongst those members of the military, a belief affirmed after having spent time growing up around that environment. His willingness to serve is admirable, especially considering the beating his body will take while trying to cut it in the NFL.
The former Spartan might not want to head down to the recruiter’s office just yet, though. Quessenberry has been coveted amongst NFL teams, having already met with the Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys.
His versatility is his biggest asset, and teams certainly took notice of his ability to play every position on the offensive line at the Senior Bowl when his team was short handed. Quessenberry may not stick at left tackle in the NFL, and he needs to continue to beef up if he wants to kick inside to guard, but the 300-pounder put on 60 pounds since arriving at San Jose State, so he could continue to grow.
One has to think there is a spot for Quessenberry on an NFL roster. If he’s not protecting a quarterback down the line, he wants to protect our freedom. For that, he deserves praise.
