2013 NFL Draft all-overrated team: Alec Ogletree, Khaseem Greene among linebackers

Between now and April 25, we will be unveiling our All-Underrated and All-Overrated teams for the 2013 NFL Draft. Each team will be revealed position by position with a first-team selection, second-team selection and honorable mentions as we see fit. We continue with the all-overrated linebackers.

Linebackers in today’s NFL have to be able to do quite a few things for a defense. They need the athleticism to make plays in coverage coupled with the strength and physicality to make stops in the running back. In some defenses, linebackers will have to show the ability to get after the quarterback as well.

With a growing number of responsibilities, certain types of prospects are being weeded out, making way for linebackers that can do it all. In this year’s draft, a few linebackers are being pushed up the board due to the sheer athleticism they display on the field. However, whether a linebacker lines up inside or outside, there is more to the game than athleticism.

Here are a couple of the draft’s most overrated linebackers.

First team: Alec Ogletree, Georgia

Few linebackers in this draft can match Ogletree's athleticism, but if the Georgia backer doesn't learn how to get the most out of that ability, he may not be worth his draft slot. Ogletree is fast and strong, but he overruns way too many plays and struggles to fight through blocks. If he can't figure out how to read plays better and use his strength to shed blockers, his role will be limited in the NFL. Add in his off the field issues, and Ogletree is an easy pick for this list.

Second team: Khaseem Greene, Rutgers

Greene constantly made plays at Rutgers due to his speed and hard-hitting nature. However, two glaring holes in his game make one question how well he will transition to the NFL. For starters, he is not the strongest player and gets pushed around on occasion. Additionally, he doesn’t recognize plays as they develop and it causes him to run himself out of position a lot. If a team can find a way to get Greene in space, he could be be a solid player, but his limitations earn him a spot on this list.
