2013 NFL Draft team needs: New York Giants

What do the Giants need to add to get back to the Super Bowl?

The Giants are less than two years removed from a Lombardi Trophy with many of the same pieces still in place, yet last season they failed to make the playoffs. General manager Jerry Reese has typically done well in the draft and is a big proponent of the 'best player available' strategy. Expect the Giants to stick to that philosophy on Thursday.

New York didn't do much in free agency this offseason, but made a few effective moves. They replaced Chris Canty with Cullen Jenkins at defensive tackle, saving money in the process. The additions of cornerback Aaron Ross and safety Ryan Mundy should help improve a weak secondary. All in all, the Giants didn't lose much, but they will need to find a new edge rusher to help replace Osi Umenyiora.

Top three needs

Defensive line - The Giants defense is built around strong defensive linemen and it is time for an upgrade. Umenyiora left for the Falcons and Justin Tuck has been in decline for each of the past two seasons.

Linebacker - The linebacking corps has gotten worse each year since Antonio Pierce left. New York hasn't used a first-round pick on a linebacker since 1984, but could stand to upgrade across the board with Dan Connor, Keith Rivers and Jacquian Williams at the top of the depth chart.

Offensive Line - There are holes all over the offensive line. They could use an upgrade from David Diehl at right tackle and need to find a guard for the future with Chris Snee aging and Kevin Boothe in a one-year deal.

Ideal pick: Best player available
